Off to Macau

December 3rd, 2004 by Dave

I’m going to be posting sporadically at best for the next ten days or so, as I’m flying to Macau to attend a conference on gambling and the public welfare. I’ll try to post updates as I get web access, but as usual I have a vague idea at best of where I’ll be going and exactly what I’ll be doing.

If for some reason you need to get in contact with me, your best bet is to email me or to try the Holiday Inn Macau, (44) 853 783 333. Even that’s a crapshoot, though.

In any event, I wish everyone reading the best, and feel free to post any links to this message, if you find a news story you think I should write up. And if you are in the area of Macau, stop by the conference.

In the mail today was an ad for The Ho (the new Las Vegas casino on Industrial that caters to a local crowd), and it said:

AS FUN AS THE NAME IMPLIES

Now, this may not be too important when you take into consideration the major developments in the gaming industry worldwide, and all the economic, social, political and moral ramifications of those developments, but–it’s still pretty funny.

Greetings, EZ, from sunny Macau. I actually posted on THE HO a while back–check the archives for "Get lucky at the Ho."

In Macau, of course, the casino industry is dominated by Stanley Ho. Coincidence?

Check for a full entry with news of my travels soon.

Pleasant day to you. I hope you are gamboling with the best.

While you’re in the area, find out if Frank McFadden has replaced an incumbent, or if his job as CEO of Venetian Macau, Ltd. was created just for him. It seems strange that we wouldn’t know if a company had a CEO or not….

You’re thousands of miles away! Ah, my heart, calm your rampant fears.

P.S. I haven’t seen any puns on HO HO HO yet, but then again, I like to hide in libraries and write tome after tome of revolutionary economic theories.
