Hitting the jackpot

July 25th, 2005 by Dave

Think someone who won a million-dollar slot jackpot is rolling in dough? Well, owning the casino is even more profitable. Forbes has an interesting slideshow with the the richest gambling magnates in the world.

If you don’t feel like clicking through, or the link has expired, here are the lucky ones:
1. Sheldon Adelson: $11.9 billion
Las Vegas Sands Corp (Venetian, LV Expo, Sands Macau)
2. Kirk Kerkorian: $9.5 billion
MGM Mirage (much of the Strip)
3. Kerry Packer: $4.7 billion
PBL (Crown, Burswood casinos, publishing)
4. Stanley Ho: $3.6 billion
STDM (Macau casinos)
5. Anurag Dikshit: $3.4 billion
Party Gaming
6. Donald Trump: $2.6 billion
Trump Entertainment Resorts (AC, Gary casinos)
7. Steve Wynn: $1.9 billion
Wynn Resorts (Las Vegas, Macau casinos)
8. Ruth Parasol: $1.8 billion
Party Gaming
9. Russell De Leon: $1.8 billion
Party Gaming
10. William Boyd: $1.6 billion
Boyd Gaming (downtown LV, Stardust, Borgata)
11. Phil Ruffin: $1.3 billion
New Frontier
12. Vikrant Bhargava: $1 billion
Party Gaming

As wealthy as these twleve people are, all of them combined are worth less than Bill Gates, who tops the list at $46.5 billion.

Actually, on the master list, Sheldon Adelson is given a net worth of $15.6 billion, which ranks him at #19, right behind Michael Dell.

Also, Carl Icahn was high on the master list (#49 with $7.9 billion) but wasn’t on the “gamblers” slideshow, even though he owns four casinos: the Stratosphere, Arizona Charlie’s Boulder and Arizona Charlie’s Decatur in Las Vegas, and the Atlantic City Sands.
