Eyeing the Flash was an extremely funny and entertaining book. Jackie and Pete are two scam artists who meet in high school and become friends. Jackie, who grew up in the carnival circuit with his family, notices Peter is good with math and numbers and takes him into his "carney training program" and shows him how to fleece people. The cast of carney characters who work in the carnival with them are quite memorable: I was constantly laughing out loud throughout this book.
When I was around 10 years old or so I was ripped off in a game called two pin. You would have to roll a 12 inch softball and knock over two pins spread 4 or 5 inches apart. After spending at least five dollars the carneys would let you win by hitting something in the back to knock over both pins. Why was this game so popular at "Roundup Days", our local carnival? You would win an extremely cheaply made major league baseball helmet that probably cost the carneys 50 cents each.
