The personality of Nevada

Having picked up this personality study from Marginal Revolution, I followed it through to a handy interactive map that will help me share with you the aggregate personality of Nevadans.

The United States of Mind – WSJ.com.

Here is where Nevada ranks:
Extraversion: 37
Agreeableness: 48
Conscientiousness: 24
Neuroticism:42
Openness:9

So your typical Nevadan is withdrawn, surly, willing to do his job but not go the extra mile, relaxed, and open to new things. I can live with that. I found it interesting that our scores closely paralleled California’s (but not for agreeableness).

Do you think this accurately reflects Nevadans’ composite personality?

The original article is here (pdf).

Also, you can take the Big Five Test for yourself, then see which state you are most like. Fun stuff.

Hey, it was either this or an analysis of the February gaming revenue numbers, and I don’t want to make Nevada any more neurotic. At least not today. I’ll have the analysis of the revenue numbers by Thursday, for the Vegas Gang. For now, I’ll just share that penny slots are up, everything else is down, and baccarat is really, really down. I’m talking more than 50% down. Expect to hear analysts use the phrase “weakening high-end play” in the next media cycle.

  1. I’ve been thinking about this subject for the last week.

I have a lot to say about this subject but am holding myself back from commenting. I might be too biased from too much time spent behind the wheel of a cab.

Instead I’ll mention some writing that I feel sums up Las Vegas extremely well.

Just two weeks ago I just found out about a website called Yelp.com….where common people give reviews about nearly every thing a person can think of: restaurants, tattoo parlors, casinos, nightlife, hotel rooms, ad infinity.

Tonight I just read 56 of the most brilliant, insightful and funny reviews on the city in general…from locals and tourists.

If anyone wants to read some really good (pro & con) views on Las Vegas, scan this one section of Yelp.com.

(I’m not sure if URLs post on this blog….but if they do…the page is shown above).

If not, just go to Yelp Com and type in ‘Las Vegas’.

It’s a good reference source for writers, researchers, and anyone in the casino industry.

Maybe you already know about this Yelp thing. It’s new to me though…and I felt was worth commenting about.

These unvarnished reviews, from the twenty-something crowd, are hilarious and as honest as I’ve ever seen.

  2. I posted something here last night about a website Called Yelp and it seemed to have posted.

I don’t know if I’m wrong in assuming it’s been removed…probably because it had a link attached…or for some other reason.

Sorry for breaking any rules of this blog (that I didn’t realize I was violating).

I’ll remain quiet from now on.

    No need to respond.
