I enjoyed the article about Joe Asher. Sports Books are a fun place to hang out for a bit when you want to sit back and have a couple of drinks and bet on a game.

Well the Super Bowl is this weekend and from what I have seen and read most of the media experts are taking the Giants and 3 points. 6 of the 9 writers/editors in the USA Today Sports section are going with the Giants along with the majority of writers and TV hosts on ESPN. I think the Giants are a better team but when the majority goes one way, bet the other way.

The reason I do not play blackjack or poker on the internet is that I enjoy the interaction between the customers at the tables in a casino. I know with the younger generation this might be popular (I am 45 years old) but I guess I am old fashioned in this way.

Good luck with the Viva Tot Vegas website. A place that little kids might like is the Bonnie Springs Ranch out near the Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area. There is a petting zoo, pony and horse rides, a small train and even a bar/restaurant if you and your kids are hungry and thirsty. I have not been there since 1998 but I liked it a lot back then.

I enjoyed both articles Dr. Schwartz. I think the biggest story of 2011 is a tie between City Center and Cosmopolitan. The two brand new hotel-casinos in the middle of the Strip (at a cost of over $12 billion dollars combined) are the future of Las Vegas. Despite a somewhat indifferent economy they are both hanging in there. Good luck to both.

I saw Starlight Express back in the mid 90's at the Las Vegas Hilton and the show was fun and quite entertaining from what I remember. The show was performers roller skating all over the showroom (in the aisles and everywhere else) and loud music playing from some speakers. I prefer roller derby from the 1970's but Starlight Express was pretty good.

Hopefully Tropicana's new nightclub RPM will work out well for them. They probably should have opened a nightclub years ago but with Columbia Sussex owning the property (and losing millions and millions and millions of dollars) that really set the Tropicana way, way behind the times.

On David McKee's blog several months ago he mentioned that the Tropicana needed more parking to bring more customers into their property. Maybe they would consider building a new parking garage somewhere on their property or maybe tear down that old parking garage (across from the Excalibur) and build a new parking garage there. That parking garage is very old and small (I think it is either 2 or 3 stories tall).

The two Las Vegas newspapers (Las Vegas Review Journal and Las Vegas Sun) have reduced the number of business reporters/journalists they have working for them because of the economy so Jeff Simpson (RIP), ChuckMonster, David McKee, Hunter and yourself have picked up the slack and all of you do a very good job discussing and talking about the casino industry.

I listened for a couple of minutes and then the audio cut out after that. The same thing happened when I attempted to listen to the George Maloof interview.

Thanks for including a link to Mr. Steelman's blog. He is a very smart and interesting person. Hopefully he will get another opportunity to build a hotel-casino in Las Vegas.

EVEN Canada?

Ontario's Niagara-On-The-Lake and British Columbia's Okanagan Valley both boast thriving wine industries and are beautiful wine tourism destinations.

They are also 3,000 miles apart in Canada. Natalie discusses Niagara region. Best to be a bit more geographically specific.

Good interview. Mr. Maloof has done many good things to help increase tourism and nightlife in Las Vegas over the last 10 years. I remember an article entitled, "The Odd Couple: Underground music and mainstream casinos have partnered to ignite the Vegas club scene" from August 3rd of 2000 in Las Vegas City Life.

"The Odd Couple" talked about many brand new nightclubs in Las Vegas and then the Palms opened a year later and along came Rain, ghostbar, etc. and the Palms became a celebrity hot spot. Mr. Maloof is very bright, I think eventually everything will get lots and lots better again at the Palms.

When I was a kid we would go outside and play baseball, basketball, wiffle ball, kick the can, etc. all day until it was time for lunch or dinner. One of my friends had Atari pong and we would play that sometimes until his mom came home and told us to go outside.

A great game you would need at least 10 people to play would be manhunt. In manhunt there would be 5 or 6 people on each team and the one team would go and hide and the other team would try and find them. We did manhunt in one of two neighborhoods (my neighborhood had around 60 houses and the other neighborhood had around 50 houses). You would hide up a tree, in a window well, in some bushes, etc. My cousin told me one time he hid on the roof of a house.

So there would be a bunch of 10 year old kids running through a neighborhood trying to finish the manhunt and catching everyone who was trying to hide. It was a lot of fun but we probably annoyed a lot of people (especially stay at home moms) who lived in the neighborhood but we did manhunt only during the day anyway.
